Ocean Regenerative and Magee Collaborate on Kelp Nursery Experiment

October 15, 2020

Over the past 2 months, in collaboration with Magee High School, grade 11 and 12 students, have been working cross-functionally to design, build, and manage an experiment focused on the cultivation of kelp spores to produce kelp-based consumer products. Students will see the project from cradle to grave. From designing the infrastructure, to deploying the kelp seeds.

Engineering head Andrew Robinson has lead the students in the 3D modelling and construction of required equipment. His talent in working with software, and craftsmanship in the shop has allowed students to move quickly through the process. Science department head Colin Mayer is leading the biological aspect of the experiment, using his unique knowledge and passion for biology to walk students through the inoculation and spore grow-out phases. Stay tuned for updates regarding this project!
